What is CarbonZero?

Mike Rigby, Director - mike.rigby@co2balance.com 

MikeMike is a Chartered Environmentalist, Chartered Town Planner and Chartered Waste Manager who has worked with local authorities and industry to minimise the impacts of the minerals and waste sectors on the environment. He organises local environmental events such as clearing rubbish from rivers, most recently the River Tone in Taunton and a stretch of the River Yeo in Sherborne. Mike has organised the planting of tens of thousands of trees for various groups over the last 5 years. He shares overall management of the organisation with fellow co-founder Mark Simpson and has particular responsibility for business development and client liaison.

Mark SimpsonMark's early background as a Research Chemist has been instrumental in setting up the principles behind the co2balance project. More recently, he has specialised in the restoration of period properties across the UK with particular emphasis on energy efficiency ensuring high insulation values are achieved and energy efficient appliances used. The most recent renovation project has involved converting a property to be CarbonZero in its energy usage. Mark shares overall management of the organisation with fellow co-founder Mike Rigby and has particular responsibility for the website and technical issues.

Gary.jpgGary has over 15 years experience of working in banking and the financial markets where he developed a keen business sense and honed his skills in customer relations. His desire to do something worthwhile and his passion for cycling prompted him to establish his own ethically driven mountain biking holiday business in 2001, which he successfully ran for 5 years. Gary is a dedicated environmentalist and avid promoter of the organic food movement. He still loves to ride his bikes, of which there are many.

SuzanneSuzanne has been able to combine her interest in the environment with her background as an Executive Business Coach enabling her to work closely with clients to CarbonZero their businesses. "As all companies are diverse in their requirements, my role within co2balance as UK Director ensures each company is fully supported in their journey to become CarbonZero and remain CarbonZero in the future."




Paul Chiplen, Communications Manager - paul.chiplen@co2balance.com 

PaulPaul has merged his keen interest of environmental matters with promotion and PR, and has a local authority background as a Waste Campaigns Officer. Paul has recently project managed a major waste promotional campaign, deigned to raise the awareness of reducing, reusing and recycling waste. He has been heavily involved with media relations and promotional campaigns designed to increase recycling levels and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
 

 

 

Adam Blaker, Chief Scientist - adam.blaker@co2balance.com 

Adam blakerAdam has a background in Physical Oceanography, and is also carrying out research as a Climate Scientist at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton. He has a keen interest in global climate and the effects of fossil fuel burning. Adam brings knowledge and understanding of current scientific developments to the team.




Ian Myers, 
Events Manager

IanIan has been involved with environmental regulation and improvement work since 1989. Originally specialising in water quality issues he managed high profile river rehabilitation projects in urban areas in the North West of England that were supported and funded by the EU Objective One scheme and the Mersey Basin Campaign. More recently Ian has worked with the agricultural, waste and industry sectors to improve the environment in Somerset since moving to the South West. He is now involved in changing Environmental Regulation throughout England and Wales. Ian has had a keen and practical interest in environmental issues for almost 30 years.

Mark has over 15 years' experience in sales and marketing.  In addition to his sales role, Mark co-ordinates co2balance’s afforestation projects throughout Europe.


Kate Barrington, Customer Liaison Manager - kate.barrington@co2balance.com 

Although her background was originally in the arts, marketing and customer service, Kate has always had a keen interest in environmental issues and also works for www.greenmoves.com (the eco homes website).


David Francis, Senior Web Developer

David
David has been in the IT business since 1988, developing software for mainframe computers, PCs and the Web. With an interest in technology in general and efficiency in particular, his design preference is for economy and adherence to standards. He has been senior webhead at co2balance from the outset, and is now primarly involved in the back-end aspects of the site.





Andrew McCabe, Senior Web Developer

Andrew has worked in computer related jobs for 10 years. He liaises with clients on integrating our calculators into their online and offline systems and works with our design agency to bring new content to our websites.


Lucy Winn, Creative Development Co-ordinator - lucy.winn@co2balance.com 

LucyLucy is a digital image designer with keen interest in environmental issues. Lucy's background in surface illustration has seen her designs sold throughout Europe. Her main role with co2balance is collating information to update our website and the design of visual display material. Lucy is involved with the co-ordination of events and ensures that the co2balance promotional material is consistent with our brand image.
