co2balance supported MediaCom over the lat 12 months to undertake a comprehensive review of their carbon emissions. The process involved a calculation, reduction, and offset of residual emissions to make them a CarbonZero company.

Four Steps to an effective Carbon Management Strategy:

Step 1: Calculation
The first step for in developing an effective Carbon Management Strategy, for MediaCom, was to undertake a Carbon Audit, which creates a baseline of emissions data.

Step 2: Reduction

• An Energy Reduction Assessment was carried out by co2balance in order to highlight areas where carbon savings could be achieved.
• MediaCom populated their intranet site with a Green Area, with top tips for energy reduction and carbon calculators for all staff to access.
• A Staff Engagement Program was set up in order to bring all staff onboard with MediaCom’s Carbon Management strategy. Green Teams were set up and implemented to drive forward the carbon reduction message.

Step 3: Re-assessment of their carbon footprint
Following the reduction actions, MediaCom’s carbon footprint was re-assessed review any carbon saving achieved, and actions were reviewed and progress monitored.

Step 4: Offset
MediaCom’s residual footprint was offset through co2balance’s UK forestry project in Somercombe Wood, Devon. The mix of English Oak, Ash, Silver Birch and Alder will naturally absorb carbon as they grow.

Creation of MediaCom Woodland
The woodland is owned and managed by co2balance to ensure that there is absolute control over its future. Once the woodland is completed and mature it will be turned into a community woodland owned by a charitable trust.
