Loose Fit Surf Shop pick up top eco-award for CarbonZero Surfing
Tuesday 13th November 2007

Loose-Fit Surf Shop has won a top award at this year’s Green Apple Environmental Awards, taking home the Silver trophy for “Travel and Leisure”, thanks to it's “CarbonZero Surfing” campaign.
The campaign was recognised for its total commitment to the environment. As well as switching to a green energy supplier and reducing it’s carbon footprint, Loose-Fit become the world’s first CarbonZero Surf Shop, with over 200 trees planted to absorb the carbon dioxide that it produces.
Picking up their award at the House of Commons from well known environmental campaigner David Bellamy, Jon Finch from Loose-Fit said, “we put the environment at the heart of what we do, and as well as being a CarbonZero company, we also are also a member of the “1% for the Planet” scheme, whereby we donate one percent of our net sales to selected environmental projects worldwide”.
“We are delighted that our work has been recognised it such a way, and it is a great reflection on the hard work and commitment of the staff, who thrive on the eco approach of how we run our business”.
Loose-Fit has been working with co2balance since 2006 to become CarbonZero. Over 200 trees have all been planted locally to Loose Fit in the South West in co2balance’s own woodland, absorbing 180 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
Mike Rigby, Director of co2balance said: “We are thrilled that Loose-Fit have picked up this award, and it is a great endorsement to the CarbonZero Surfing campaign that we have been running with them”.
The carbon offsetting part of the “CarbonZero Surfing” campaign is an “additional project”, in that the trees would not otherwise have been planted but for the investment of the funds from Loose-Fit. This ensures that their move in becoming CarbonZero has resulted in a clear and direct action in reducing carbon dioxide, which is a key contributor to climate change.
